#CoupleGoals

Emelia and Kevin founded the earthling co., a sustainable beauty and home brand that doesn’t just talk the talk when it comes to doing good for the planet.

Back in 2015, two college students from the University of Pittsburgh meet abroad, explore Florence, Italy and eventually part ways. In five years, they’ll be launching an eco-friendly lifestyle brand from their apartment in Reno, Nevada.

Emelia’s research on climate change and the plastic waste crisis prompted her interest in zero-waste living. She shared her passion with her boyfriend, Kevin, an entrepreneur building businesses in the ecommerce industry.

Together they started a lifestyle brand devoted to fulfilling two gaps in the market- the lack of education and misconceptions around climate change, and the common misbelief that natural, toxic-free products don’t work. Just ask the 90,000 people who have bought their shampoo bars to date.

“We want to provide value beyond a purchase.”

—Kevin

Eco-Friendly Alternatives to Everyday Products

For a beginner, starting a zero-waste lifestyle might sound daunting and failure bound. That’s why Emelia and Kevin have fostered an accepting and encouraging community, empowering anyone who wants to live sustainably to do so. Progress over perfection. That’s one of their core values.

Also essential to their brand promise is the belief that sustainable living should be accessible to everyone. Between their shampoo and conditioner bars, facial bars, hand soap, body oil and bamboo products, nothing on their entire site is over $35.

  1. Division of labor is crucial. Trust one another, and let one another fully own their individual tasks.

“Sometimes decisions are made and I’m like hmm.. really? But I’m learning to let that go.” -Emelia

  2. Get ready for your personal and professional life to bleed together.

“There’s a lot of room for vulnerability and intimacy.” -Emelia

  3. Recognizing your own limits and faults.

“We’ve realized the need for opinions of third-parties outside of ourselves.” -Kevin

Good for You, Good for the Planet

Last but not least, let’s just talk about how sweet these products are. First of all, they come in so many fun colors and smell amazing, truly awakening all of the senses with every use. Second, they’re completely vegan, allergen and cruelty free, with 100% recyclable packaging. I love the lip balm— I’m a sucker for a good chapstick and I can see myself buying this one over and over. It’s peppermint and is infused with essential oils. I can put it on once in the morning and it lasts all day.
